Design of a multi use centre heliport in Nottingham, for helicopter flight and aircraft storage. Including a new flight training school.
Approached by Central Helicopters and MGS Services, Baker Architectural where asked to provide a design solution for Central Helicopters new facility at their new location in Nottingham. Our brief was to provide a facility that could easily adapt and cater for the firms growing business and new market area expansions. To be included where: Office and administrative rooms, training classrooms, flight simulator installation, workshop and aircraft hanger, along with flight ground areas and general parking/access requirements.
The site for the facility was situated on sloping land with prior use and therefore suited the design of a split level building. The mixed internal use led to merging of a composite metal frame and traditional construction methods. To allow planning permission to be granted, the requirements of both local Highways and the Civil Aviation Authority where need to be met. This led to careful flight path planning and flight scheduling.
